<Renewal of Minds> <LMCC Core Classes>

We love God with our hearts but in order to knowand love— Him better, we must also love Him with our minds (see Mark 12:30). God’s process of transforming us into the image of Christ, then, includes the renewal of our minds.

In Renewal of Minds, we encounter Jesus, the Word (John 1:1, 14) whom the word points to, the Word who transforms us. Knowing the word of God is good, knowing God the Word—Jesus—is even better. Jesus said,

“You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me…” John 5: 39 RSV

Knowing the word of God, then, is one of the primary means of knowing God the Word—Jesus. The goal of Adult Education at Lookout Mountain Community Church is to encounter the Word behind the word—Jesus Christ.

Core Classes

Toward this end, we encourage everyone who considers LMCC their church home to enroll in our core classes. Core classes communicate the core theology and DNA of Lookout Mountain Community Church. The two core classes currently offered include:

Welcome To LMCC

Designed for people who are interested in knowing more about LMCC, this class answers:
  • What is LMCC’s strategy for worship, community, service ministries,
    and evangelism and missions?
  • How can I get more involved at church
  • As part of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, what does LMCC believe and how are church decisions made?
  • How can I become a member?
  • How do I grow as a follower of Jesus who considers Lookout their church home?

Each week different members of the pastoral staff share their stories, their vision for their particular area of ministry, and how you can play a part in it. Although you don’t have to become a member if you enroll in this class, this is the class that leads to membership.

This class is offered four times a year and lasts five weeks at a time. Childcare is provided. Taught by Mike Klassen, Pastor of Congregational Life.

What We Believe

Did you know that you’re a theologian? Whether you realize it or not, everyone is. And every day you live in such a way that you reveal your theology. Theology, in its simplest definition, is the way you think about life—about God and His creation.

The purpose of this class is to provide a framework that helps you think about God, His world, yourself, and the relationship between them. In the process, you will develop a theology that is biblical and one that you can call your own. Taught by Aram Haroutunian, Pastor of Congregational Care.

SELECTIVE CLASSES

We also offer selective classes—classes with congregation-wide appeal which we highly recommend and offer once a year. Selective classes include:

Contagious Christian Course. Sharing your faith in a world that is indifferent or opposed to the Gospel can be a little intimidating. This team-led class will help you examine your faith and articulate it in a world of illusions. Facilitated by Duncan Sprague, Director of Missions and Outreach.

Discover Your Spiritual Gifts. God has designed you with a unique blend of spiritual gifts. This class will answer: Are all the spiritual gifts mentioned in Scripture still valid today? Are there more spiritual gifts than what the Bible mentions? What are my spiritual gifts and how can I use them at Lookout Mountain Community Church? This interactive class includes an extensive spiritual gifts evaluation and practical outlets to use them in the body. Led by Kelley Klassen.

ELECTIVE CLASSES

Lastly, we offer elective classes – classes which address age, gender or need-specific issues. They may also be a topic study or Bible book study. Recent classes include:

  • Romancing Your Child’s Heart
  • That’s Amore: Relationships in Song of Solomon
  • Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts
  • Money Matters

We also offer an ongoing “come and go” Bible study class on Wednesday nights called Bible Study Interactive. This interactive class utilizes inductive Bible study methods to mine the riches of God’s word and apply it to daily life. Currently the class is studying the book of Joshua.

Throughout the week we also offer other adult education opportunities:

  • Precepts
  • Beth Moore Bible Studies
  • Community Bible Study
