In Congregational Care, our aim
is to develop communities of spiritual responsibility, whereby
each member is attentive to the formation of Christ in his own
soul, and is equipped to convey that grace to others, so that
the Body might edify itself and transform the world in love
(Ephesians 1:10; 4:11-16; Colossians 1:24-29).
Core
Values and Commitments
-
Equipping.
A commitment to equipping the Body to
do the work of ministry, believing that the Body is gifted
and called to this end (Eph. 4:11-16; I Corinthians 12).
-
Service. A
commitment to the belief that the deepest joy and fulfillment
in life is found in giving ourselves in service to others
(Matt. 16:25; Hebrews 12:2).
-
Community. A
commitment to the belief that people’s needs are best
met in the context of community, and a commitment to cultivating
an awareness of personal ownership for one another’s
care and nurture (Hebrews 10:24-25; Acts 2:42-46).
-
Sacrament.
A commitment to cultivating attentiveness
to sacramental realities; to an assumption that Jesus is
always active and present in our lives and in our world,
and to explore ways we might see His fingerprints and activity
among us (Luke 24:32; John 1:14-18; John 14:15-18; Acts
17:22-28).
-
Spiritual Growth.
A commitment to a more proactive approach
to our spiritual nurture through the grace of the spiritual
disciplines, and through embracing our rich heritage of
Christian spirituality (2 Timothy 1:3-6; 2 Timothy 3:14-17).
Loving
from the Heart: Strategies for
Equipping & Edifying the Body
“And you shall love the Lord your God with all
your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with
all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second,
like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself”
~Mark 12:30-31
